Case-Mate Pop! Case for the Samsung Galaxy S II i9100

Hey everyone! I've got a special surprise for everyone today :D I got this case in the mail today. I won the case from Case-Mate Europe. They're a fantastic company. I've had a ton of their cases in the past for my Blackberries. They make some of the best cases out there. This one is NO exception! It's built like a tank!

This case is just gorgeous.

Background Information: I saw this case being advertised by Case-Mate, and I entered their contest. I never win these things :P So it was to my surprise that I won! Woohoo!!! But the person with whom I talked to from Case-Mate told me that this specific case wasn't going to come out for months, but since I had won, he was going to send me a reviewer's unit. That's incredibly nice. That's why I can't do an unboxing, too.

The Case: The case is made of plastic and rubber. The inside of the phone has rubber to cushion the phone in place. It's very soft and it feels like a good home for the case :). The sides of the case are rubberized and have a design that makes it feel grippy. I don't think this case is ever going to fall out of my hand! No more butter fingers ;).

What makes this case interesting is the fact that it has a pop-out kickstand.

I've had this case for a few days now, and I have used the kick stand constantly. You don't know how useful it is. It's almost as good as having a dock. Normally when I charge and sync my device, I just lay it flat on the table. I fear that it will scratch the camera lens or if I lay it flat on the table, it would scratch the screen! So that's a no go! This case removes all fears in general. It has a lip over the screen, and not only is the lens embedded within the case, Case-Mate has taken the time to actually think this case through VERY well! The kickstand has little rubber feet as well, so it doesn't slip.

That rubber lip actually goes over just ever so slightly over the plastic, so the case rests on the rubber rather than on the gorgeous white hard plastic (evading scratches). I believe that many hours went into the designing of this case.

While I show you this picture, I should show you how easily the buttons are pressed. As you can see, they embedded a built in button, so there is no searching for it. It is just easily pressed and that's it! The same goes for the volume rocker.

All the ports and microphone holes are there.

The OEM charging cable fits fine, and they've left some room so even non-oem cables can charge and sync. I recently got a USB HOST adapter, and it fits in there fine as well. :).

Materials used in the case: To quote their website "Co-molded materials of plastic and soft rubber unite to create a hard case with a soft touch. The lightweight plastic body of the Pop! protects from unforeseeable impacts, while keeping your screen lifted away from surfaces. " It's made of a nice hard plastic, and a soft rubber that feels good in the hand. As I stated previously, it's grippy. The sides of the case grabs the insides of your pockets, but no where near as much as a silicone case would, so thanks for that! :)

Feel and Thickness: The feel in the hand is very nice. I like it very much. It makes it chubbier, which depending on what you like could be either good or bad. For example, I think the SGS2 is a sexy phone, and it's gorgeous and thin. But I don't like incredibly thin phones! I like to have something to grab onto. I also spend lots of hours writing emails, IMs, etc. I like to feel the phone. I don't think it adds TOO MUCH thickness. But it does add some.

Protection: Many people buy cases for fashion nowadays, but the main purpose of a case is to protect. I'd never let my phone fall with a thin case on it. I'd be afraid of it breaking. Of course, who would let their phone fall on purpose? All I know is that this case if built like a tank, and is more than likely to save your phone's life from short falls with no problems. It's rubber insides, and plastic and rubber exterior makes this a very safe case for your phone.

Here are some images.

So you have an idea of the thickness

Here is the case next to the phone with a Blackberry 9700 battery on top. The 9700 battery I believe to be near the same thickness as the SGS2 battery, so it's not that bad!

Price: TBA when it's out for the general public. Keep your eyes out for @CaseMateEurope on twitter and their website by clicking here

Kent's Rating: 4.5/5 This case ROCKS. It's got a gorgeous design. It doesn't heat up in my hand, or at least I didn't feel any heat. It's thick enough to offer REAL protection for your phone! The design is gorgeous. I think this is going to be my daily driver for a while :). My SGS2 feels safe inside.

Thanks a lot Case-Mate Europe for the awesome case :)

  2. Looks a nice case buts its a little pricy! Have you tried one of the personalised cases from www.getincased.com? I'm thinking about getting one of those to be a bit different.
